"Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies. ... Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world."

Yes, Virginia ... there is a Santa Claus!

Goodie Gum Drops ... these are ornaments

I just love a candy land theme to the Christmas decorating.  I'm not entirely sure why this is a great combination - other than the festive period is often a time of lots of lovely sweets and treats - but it puts me in mind of childhood and of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.  Are you singing along with me to "toot sweets"?  Ah, I digress.  See what happens when I think of childhood christmas fantasies.

Gum Drop Ornaments at FakeCupcakeCreations

There are several popular styles for ornaments in a Candy Land Christmas concept; cupcakes, candies, etc. and of course loads of methods and materials of production.  I've just seen a new-for-me concept and I think it's utterly brilliant.  The gum drop ornament.  I love gum drops and think they'd look fab on a tree.  Sparkly and pretty colours, what more could you want?

You can find images and links to a number of options for the Gum Drop ornament on my Candy Land Christmas board, but these fabulous blogs will give you a great overview of some of the various methods of construction, if you want to try to make your own.

Papier Mache Egg version

Allison from dreamalittlebigger.com has a wonderful step-by-step tutorial on making these adorable Giant Gum Drop ornaments.   Allison uses papier mache eggs as the form, which she cuts with an xacto knife.  The center is hollow and a hanging thread is attached with glue.  Gorgeous photos detail every aspect along the way.

This construct method would also be super-cute for creating a bell ornament, with a jingle bell or bead hanging down from within.  Click here for Dream a Little Bigger - Giant Gumdrop Ornaments.

Styrofoam Shape version 1

Craft Elf provides craft instructions, patterns, craft ideas and information free of charge and they have instructions for creating a sweet gumdrop ornament using styrofoam shapes for the base and inserting wire for a loop on top.  Great ideas also for a lovely gift presentation.

Styrofoam Shape version 2

Another great tutorial for the styrofoam shape version can be found at Janet Smart's Writing in the Blackberry Patch blog.  Lots of great photos to explain the process to you, and Janet makes both large and small versions.

Whichever version you choose for the basic construct, you'll need paint and a nice chunky crystal glitter to resemble sugar.  And then just your imagination and patience while the paint dries.  I know I'm looking forward to trying this out, and I will be definitely looking at the Dollar Store aisle differently next Easter now that I just might know what to do with the various egg shaped craft supplies that show up then.  All sorts of possibilities!  Super pretty!

For an easy childrens version you could probably use a cut up egg carton and pipe cleaner for a wire hanger.  I'm sure the kids would have fun adding paint and sparklies!

If you love this idea but don't like to get paint on your fingers, check out Teresa Brown's shop on Etsy for lots of lovely Christmas Candy Land themed ornaments.  I'll soon be posting more about this shop.
